Blacksmithing is Lackluster

I will start by saying to take this with a grain of salt as I really only played blacksmith on a private server with my buddy. I find the blacksmithing tree to be boring and it doesn't incentivize having a designated blacksmith(s). All the tree does is make you smith faster, in which it doesn't take that long to smith anyways.
Two of the skills in the blacksmithing tree, steel song and ember composer, while they are cool skills all they do is remove one of the only fun parts of blacksmithing (that being working at metal and watching it mold). My friend was the fighter, and we roleplayed as me paying him to protect me in the mines while I grab the materials for weapons, and in turn for protecting me I offered him discounts on all weapons, but he ended up making all his own weapons with the ore he collected anyways because he was able to craft just the same as I could, even with a maxed out blacksmithing tree. This made it pointless for me to even try and be the designated blacksmith and made me feel useless as a member of the server, I have since been moving into archery and mining.
Pretty much all the other skill trees have something to incentivize having one person designated. The mining tree has the echolocation and the quick pickups, the combat trees get cool new attacks, but blacksmithing gets slightly faster and slightly boring forging. All I ask is that there be some reason to grind out the blacksmithing tree: higher durability, better damage, ability to repair; these are all things that the community has suggested that would be perfect in incentivizing having a designated blacksmith and promoting the players to actually use them other than the server managers just forcing them to. However, if these design choices arent in the books for the game then i'm fine just playing something else.
(on a side note more customization options for guards could be fun, i wanted to make a great-sword with a hilt that had two of the curved blades on the side, but I couldnt do any form of attachments to achieve this. maybe a T directional part could be good for putting two weapon parts on the side and one on top, basically a customizable hilt)

I do one hundred percent agree! As a blacksmith myself in most servers there is little to no inscentive to pay for a weapon instead of just making it yourself. I posted a smithing rework a while back and uf we combine the smithing rework idea and an update to the skill tree,it could revolutionize the economy around smithing and weaponmaking! Also,i definately want that T Connector so i can finaly make a Halberd.

Just out of curiosity what alloys did you two use for the weapons?

MarvelousGenki: We've made it up to mithril so far, in terms of alloys we've mostly used red iron up until we got silver. We haven't taken the time to get enough mithril to make any alloys, just a couple mithril weapons

ZombieStriker: valyan is pain to forge without skills.
But since you're on a private server, you guys could possibly spice things up yourself.
Ask your server owner to delete the forge 😈 Only players with amber composer would be able to make blades then!

MarvelousGenki: It's just the two of us, I manage the server. I'll ask him about it but it does seem a little petty. It's way too late for me to be able to fully consider whether or not that will work though
Edit: it might be tied into the same thing as the server manager (me) just forcing the players (my bud) to have a designated blacksmith rather than it just being a good choice, which is my main gripe (i'm all for the temporary solutions though). side note, if i do remove the forge I can just restore it, right?

Figured it out, the solution feels off as it doesn't actually do anything to make myself a better blacksmith, or make me feel like I can do something better than someone with zero skills in the tree. Maybe I'll just proc myself back into blacksmith once we unlock valyan, though as I think about it I do find myself warming up to the idea of removing the forge more
