Bag Physics & Theft Solutions

Context:
bags dropped on the floor can be lost in so many ways. if the bag is touched slightly, it can become a spaceship and fly into the stratosphere in a random direction. it could also be stolen by a bad actor by simply picking it up. these problems can be easily avoided with changes to how backpacks work when dropped
Solution:
backpacks dropping to the floor causes a lot of problems, so the answer is simple: dont let them. if a player were to let go of their bag, the bag could float in mid air and the player could interact with it with both hands (example: see Into the Radius VR). backpacks floating in the air when dropped sounds like an alien concept, but I implore you to consider it. this would allow the player to more easily sort through their bag, while also protecting it from thieves who would have grabbed it if it were sitting on the ground. this also protects against your backpack becoming a satellite, since they wouldn't be able to move while floating. if the player walks more than five meters from the bag, it will recall back to the player's back similar to how the camera disappears when you walk far from it. this would solve pretty much all bag theft since if the player were to drop their bag in any way whatsoever then it would simply float without anyone else able to interact with it. if the player wishes to have their bag drop to the ground then they could grab and drop the bag really quickly for it to fall on the ground like a physics object. they could also shake the bag like a gather skill. just add a five second timer so no one else can interact with the bag when it is dropped so a bad actor may not say "shake your bag and let go, see what happens." if the player wishes to hand the backpack to someone else they trust, they could wait the five seconds or hand the bag to someone the same way friend cookies are handed to other players.
if you are just super opposed to the idea of the backpack floating in mid air, then i may recommend setting the bag on the ground? similar to how grass clumps can be set, the player could set their bag so that it doesnt move. this would be far more limiting and less intuitive than floating, but it would at least be better than what we have now.
TL;DR
make bags float when you drop them.

A good way to do this could be to have the lock button in your radial menu (the one with the exit orb, friend poptart, camera)

Cody_Alta will this prevent other players from picking up your bag?
Cody_Alta
Brick Kent Yes, unless you unlock the bag.

No Placing Items on Others' Backs

One of the most annoying problems with server moderation is dealing with bag swappers. People join servers with the sole intention of placing their grass bag or a handle on the backs of new or distracted players, hoping they'll not notice and then drop their bag.
They grab their stuff and log off.
Why not make interacting with another player's inventory a server setting, where the default state doesn't allow players to place items on someone else's back?

Eliminate Bagswapping

Bags swapping is one of the most detrimental trolling methods in a township tale, it is where a player puts a useless bag or weapon on another players bag holster on there back while the victim is using there bag, trolls use this so that when the player attempts to re equip their bag instead of equipping it makes the victim drop their bag allowing the troll to pick it up and steal the victims entire save of loot that they have on them.
This causes players to loose motivation for servers or sometimes even the game entirely which I’ve witnessed in several occasions, this may in future lead to the game dying further.
I have a suggestion to preventing this trolling threat by removing the feature of being able to equip a bag onto another player and only allowing a player to equip a bag only to themselves.
Another suggestion would be to add a privacy setting that if turned on prevents players being able to access your inventory and what they put in your bag or what they put in your equipment slots for example as I’m suggesting the bag slot, this would be more beneficial so as if players would like there friends to have access to there equipment slots and be able to put things in there bag they can do so while at the same time stopping random trolls from bagswapping and inevitably stealing all of there victims progress for there own foul gain.

Bag Claim / Theft Prevention / Duelling Mode

Are you tired of losing hours of work because some dude who just joined the game grabbed your bag while you needed two hands for something, and throws it into the river and leaves the game forever? Well, there’s one way I’ve solved this and it may just work - Bag claim system!
- Users who create a bag of any kind will have a baggage claim card, able to be accessed through the small orb menu for trading of bags, management of claimed bags, ETC.
- Users with the baggage claim card will automatically have their bags relocated into the mailbox if they are more than 40 (or more) meters away from the bag, or if the bag is not on a hook.
- Users without the baggage claim card for a bag will not be able to grab a bag, or the contents inside or outside of the bag. They also cannot move the bag with physics of any kind.
- To ensure safe distribution of baggage claim cards, you may only share baggage claim cards with users who are friended.
- If a friended user is unfriended or blocked, you will have the option to remove all of your baggage claim cards off of your account, if you originally made the bag.
- Duel Mode | If two users engage in a duel with one another, activated through perhaps an orb thingy in the orb menu, A small arena outline of rocks will be summoned, and if a user dies, they forfeit their inventory to the victor. (Could be a fun concept, and even something that could be used to develop tournaments in servers!)
- Baggage Claim can also be enabled or disabled for servers, making it optional for server owners, if they enjoy the chaos of stolen bags,
-Users with a claim on a bag can also change the name of their bag, which is only seen by them, and no other users, even if they also have a claim on the bag.
I think this can be a nice concept. Making it optional can also help with people who want to still play the game “hardcore”. This could stop a lot of problems people have with bags on a lot of servers, and can make servers that focus on co-op more co-op-y. Also with it being optional, there can still be servers focused around PVP and taking resources from people. Hope the Dev team considers this!

Not this exact instance of solving the bag theft issues, but we are looking into one possible solution for bag theft in this case.

don’t forget to make it impossible to take someone else’s bag off of the attachment bench or assembly deck (r.i.p to my hoarder bag after twenty seconds)
